The lecture deals with the topical issues of treating elderly and senile patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). The number of such people with type 2 DM is steadily increasing. The management of this category of patients should be individual and include adequate correction of hyperglycemia to prevent microvascular complications, as well as hypoglycemic episodes, to reduce cardiovascular mortality and to maintain the quality of life. The basic data about clinical features of DM and application of antihyperglycemic preparations in elderly and senile patients are presented. Special attention is paid to the target levels of glycemic control.Downloads
